Julia Nicholls is an athlete who has lived in Carteret County for 15+ years. She has competed in running events up to 50 miles, Ironman triathlons, and open water swims. She learned to swim as an adult and still considers it the sport most challenging to her. For the past few years, she has volunteered with the Tsunami’s summer league and began coaching with the Carteret Currents just recently.

Julia and her husband have raised two children in the Carteret County school system, both of whom were successful in a variety of sports, including swimming, running, football, basketball, martial arts, etc. She has been and continues to be an active volunteer in the county. Her professional background is from Northern California where she was a Systems and Project Manager for a large healthcare facility.

Assistant Coach -- Patricia Rodriguez

Patricia became involved with the Carteret Currents Swim Team when her oldest son, Jamie, joined in 2008. This is her first appointment as assistant coach, stationed primarily at the EAC in Beaufort. Patricia has had a long history with USA swimming, club teams, high school and college level swimming. For three years during college she competed nationally. Her specialty was breaststroke, starting her swimming career as a sprinter but succeeding in longer distance swims by the time she retired from competition.

Patricia’s auxiliary qualifications include a secondary science teacher certification, 3 years high school teaching, life coach/tutor at the University of Alabama Athletics Department, deep water research diving, and being the parent of 2 boys. However, it is her 15+ years of varied level competition experience as a swimmer that will make her a sympathetic coach – well acquainted with the positive aspects of training and competition while encouraging the importance of having fun while growing as an athlete.
